A Bittersweet Life: Sun-woo by TayleRX A Bittersweet Life: Sun-woo by TayleRX
Sup. Today, I give you a little experimental drawing that I did couple of days ago. It's a little break from LoTR characters (don't worry, I'll be continuing drawing LoTR characters shortly). You might be curious who this badass guy is... well, he's a Korean actor who goes by the name of Byung-hun Lee and this particular drawing is an inspiration from an awesome poster of the movie "A Bittersweet life". If you haven't seen the movie, buy it, download it - it's a quality movie. I find Korean cinema to be phenomenal and I think you all should check out some of Korean movies :D Anyway, as you can see, this piece is quite similar to Alucard drawing that I did a while ago. This time tho, I got a little bit smarter and used charcoal pencils to get this more intense "blackness". I can assure you, it was no easy job, my hand was practically dead after I was done but I think it was worth it. Charcoal however, is quite hard to manage, therefore the quality of the image is not that great :D
Anyway, I hope you like it and I await your comments :D

Definitely a great illustration for a GREAT movie.
Hell, I liked it so much I tattooed the title on my leg(see my gallery)... well, that and the phrase means something to me personally, as well. :D
God knows I love me some Lee Byung-hun! Bar-none, one of my favorite Korean actors... and you did an amazing job capturing his likeness.
Have you seen "I Saw the Devil" yet? PHENOMENAL flick! Same director of "A Bittersweet Life" too.
Thanks for sharing!

This is good, I loved Tale of two sisters(my favourite), Apartment- the one with the really feminin guy- he was freaky. I really like Asian horror movies, I personally feel they are better than western attempts at creating scary or weird films- western attempts stopped being great a long time ago-(Universal Horrors etc) no offence thats how I feel

Wow! When I see your latest works, I'm in utter and complete awe! Your work has started looking less like traditional art and more like photography even more so with each one! With this one, I'm glad that I got to see a darker, heavy contrasted piece again. You do really well with that.:aww: And although I'm not one for smoking, I'll overlook that aspect because it's still a flawless piece! I don't know how you get such sharp discernment in areas such as the eyes, where it's REALLY heavy on the paper, yet doesn't take from the distinction of the white in the eye or on the skin. But whatever you do, the lighting and shading is unreal. So anyway, in my opinion, it's another wonderfully done piece!:D

OMG this is so awesome! I totally love Byung-hun Lee, I watched "I Saw the Devil" recently, and he's sooo amazing in it... ya I like Korean slasher movies :XD: I totally have to watch this movie now, he's such a great actor...and so lovely to look upon as well :giggle: You totally captured him perfectly, I totally knew exactly who he was! His eyes look so deep and amazing, and the smoke looks really cool, almost liquidy, you keep amazing me more and more!

Dayum, you know Lee? Hell yeah, I think he's a decent actor... in fact he's one of my favourite Korean actors, in line with Min Sik Choi and Bin Won. I've also watched "I Saw the Devil" recently and enjoyed it a lot, even though it was gory and all lol. It's amazing how people can recognize Lee, even from this drawing, he really has this specific look ^^ Did you watch a lot of Korean movies or just a few?

Hehe, yep, he's got a really recognizable face, and you did a beautiful job on him! Ya, those are probably the only Korean actors I know ^^; I haven't seen a ton of Korean movies, they aren't super popular here, but the ones I've seen I've loved! I think the first two Korean movies I ever saw were A Tale of Two Sisters...( I was told it was just a nice movie about sisters...ya wrong!!!) and Old Boy...and I don't think anybody can know what to expect from Old Boy. But Min Sik Choi did a fabulous job in that...despite that fact that I never want to watch it again! Probably the most recent Korean film I saw had Bin Won in it...it was called Mother and it was really good. But now I've got to add this movie to my list of awesome Korean movies to try and find, so thanks XD (oh and I'll take any other recommendations you have as well!)

A Tale of Two Sisters... what a trip... I mean, it was a masterpiece and all, but you have to watch it several times to truly get it. When I finally understood it, I was mind blown that every scene in a movie can have so much significance to understanding of the entire movie lol - truly terrific film. Mother was also very decent, enjoyed every bit of it... If I had to recommend more Korean movies for you... well, to start you off again, I would say:
- Man from Nowhere (similar to "Taken" but in Korean style, Bin Won is in it)
- Memories of Murder (one of the best crime-mystery movies I've ever seen)
- The Good, The Bad and the Weird (amazing, stylish action movie influenced by old Western movies)
- My Sassy Girl (funny yet genius romance movie)
These masterpieces should keep you occupied for a while, they're totally worth your time. Tell me if you enjoyed them or not. I'm definitely interested to hear your opinion ^^

Oooh, maybe I'll have to watch A Tale of Two Sisters again...I remember it being really good...and me being really mad that it was so scary when I didn't expect a horror movie XD

I've heard of Man from Nowhere, and I actually just Netflixed The Good, the Bad and the Weird cause a friend recommended it to me, so hoping to see that one really soon! I'll go see if I can find the other two, thank you soooo much for the recommendations, nice to find someone with such good taste in movies, and I'll totally let you know what I think of them =D

I love how dark this one is! You used an eraser for the smoke, right? :D

You did so well on the hand! I can't stand drawing hands. xD

Well, I kinda did use eraser for the smoke, but the reason why it looks like that is that I left the space for the smoke untouched... I've only erased the parts that I screwed up :D Anyway, when it comes to drawing hands, it is indeed a nightmare. I spent about an hour on a single hand - previous attempts were unsuccessful :D Thanks a bunch for the comment ^^
